Liberal Media Gives Moral Boost To Conservatives By Acknowledging That “Trump Is Winning”

If admitting defeat is one of the hardest things a person can do, we give the liberal Huffington Post (HP) some credit. On December 8, HP contributor Earl Ofari Hutchinson penned a piece titled “Sadly, Trump Is Winning,” which senior editors apparently let stand. It was a surprising admission for a publication which has maintained fervent opposition towards President Donald Trump from the very beginning.

Of course, the article is really an attack piece is disguise. There was no way HP would give Trump full credit for his accomplishments without slagging him to some degree. Still, the admission is an eye-opener insofar that the “Never Trump” media has finally recognized that President Trump is doing some things right, even if those “things” are mainly policies they oppose.

According to the author, the list of Trump’s victories is surprisingly long. Although conservatives will recognize these achievements as obvious, perhaps few recognize how much the left is paying attention as well. Until now, that is.

To simplify the breakdown, below are Hutchinson’s acknowledgements in direct quote form, including the parts that aren’t so complimentary. (Source: “Sadly, Trump Is Winning,” Huffington Post, December 8, 2017.)

On Trump Fulfilling Promises: “Trump has delivered on specific promises to wealthy donors and the far right.”

On Director of the Office of Management and Budget Mick Mulvaney: “. . .[Trump] won a court fight to shove Mick Mulvaney to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Mulvaney wasted no time in unhinging a spate of consumer protection rulings, regulations, and personnel hires made during the Obama years.”

On Trump’s Inter-Party Battle with the GOP: “Trump’s biggest win, though, has come on three fronts. One is the GOP. It can rail and curse at him publicly and privately, but it needs Trump. He is more than the titular head of the GOP. He is the point man for GOP policy and issues and, in a perverse way, the spur to get action on them.”

On Trump’s Base: “The second front he’s winning on is the continuing love fest that his devout base has with him. While polls show that his overall approval ratings consistently wallow under forty percent, buried in the polling fine print is the numbers that mean the most to him and the GOP.”

On Trump Winning in the Media: “The third winning front for Trump is his perennial ace in the hole: the media. He will continue to suck the media air out of everything that the Democrats do and try to do…  A couple of tweets from him knocking the owners for alleging caving into the players was more than enough to distract from his bumbling, inept, and dangerous handling of the North Korea nuclear threat, and his clueless saber rattle of Iran over the nuclear curtailment pact with the U.S.”

And that’s not all, as Hutchinson goes on to list more of Trump’s many victories. These include, in order: Neil Gorsuch’s contribution to the Supreme Court, Scott Pruitt’s work at the EPA, Trump’s pro-fossil fuels energy policies, the RNC leadership backtrack on Roy Moore, the fizzling out of “Russiagate,” tax reform bill passage, and the record stock market levels. It’s lists as a who’s-who of MAGA accomplishments, even if Trump hasn’t quite come through on draining the swamp.

Verdict

Obviously, Hutchinson’s intention wasn’t to heap praise on President Trump for all of his “winning.” Far from it, as he laments the fact that Trump’s triumphs are bad for America, further virtue signaling to an HP readership base that will never accept him. That perspective is to be expected.

But the bigger takeaway, at least for conservatives, is that the liberal media is finally acknowledging Trump’s successes. It provides tacit evidence that the left is begrudgingly noticing Trump’s influence on policy, and that maneuvers to discredit are falling flat. Trump isn’t just winning, but winning on many fronts.

Although it’s taken almost 11 months for a major media to come out and say it, it’s better late than never, we suppose. Many thought this day would never come.
