For example, if Christmas Day falls on a weekend, stock exchanges will close for business on the Friday before or the Monday after. Additionally, the NASDAQ stock exchange may remain closed under extraordinary circumstances. For example, upon the death of a U.S. president, NASDAQ will observe a day of mourning (typically the day of the funeral) and remain shut for trading all day. The stock exchanges may also be closed in the event of unforeseen circumstances, such as extraordinary market volatility, technical/system failures, war, or natural disasters.
