Who Is Anthony Weiner?
Anthony Weiner was born as Anthony David Weiner on September 4, 1964. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Both his parents were Jewish. His father, Mort Weiner, was a lawyer and his mother, Frances, was a public school teacher.
He was born as the middle child among three sons. The older brother, Seth, was killed in a hit-and-run in 2000. His younger brother, Jason, is a chef and co-owner of multiple restaurants in the New York area.
Weiner attended Brooklyn Technical High School and graduated in 1981. The school is known for being a specialized high school; in order to attend the school, potential students must pass the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test.
After high school, Weiner went on to attend the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1985. After receiving his degree, Weiner became a staff member of the current Senator Charles Schumer. He worked three years under Schumer in Washington, D.C. and then moved back to his hometown of Brooklyn, where he worked another three years as a staff member for Schumer.
After serving under Schumer for six years, Weiner decided to take his career into his own hands and ran for political office, with the encouragement of his mentor, Schumer. Weiner represented the Democratic Party and ran for the New York City Council. This was also the time when the New York City Council was expanding to 51 seats from 35. In the end, Weiner won the election and became a councilman.
At the time of the election, Weiner was the youngest councilman in the city’s history. During his seven years as a councilman, he focused on improving the quality of life for individuals, cleaning up the streets of graffiti and starting programs to help at-risk teens.
In 1998, Weiner had his eye on becoming a congressman in New York’s ninth congressional district. The seat was held by his former boss and mentor, Chuck Schumer. The election was not a mentor versus mentee battle; Schumer was running for a Senate seat and giving up his congress seat. Weiner ended up winning the seat and held this position until 2011.
During this time, Weiner was very vocal about issues that were either close to his heart or that he truly believed were better for the people he was representing. For instance, Weiner stood up against the Republicans that were opposing the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act. The Act would have provided money to first responders that helped during the chaos and attacks on the World Trade Center in September of 2001.
Another cause that Weiner was against was the mailing of tobacco through the United States Postal Service when purchased through the Internet. Weiner achieved his goal and stopped the program. There were two benefits to ending this program; the first being a revenue boost since the state that the residents lived in would receive tax income. The second was that it would help prevent children and teenagers getting access to tobacco through the Internet.

In May of 2009, Weiner became engaged to Huma Abedin. Abedin is very familiar with politics since she has worked as a personal aide to Hillary Clinton and has worked for former President Bill Clinton.

A year after being engaged, the two married in July. Shortly after the two got married, Abedin gave birth to a son, Jordan Zain Weiner, in December of 2011.
In August of 2016, Abedin announced that she was planning to separate from Weiner. The reason being the many sexting scandals surrounding Weiner—more details about this are further below. In 2017, Abedin made another announcement; she desired to file for divorce from Weiner and have full custody of their son. Lastly, in 2017, Abedin filed for divorce in order to start a new chapter in her life.
What Did Anthony Weiner Do for a Living from 2011 to 2017?
In 2011, Weiner left his post as a congressman. In 2017, he is entering a prison where he will spend the next 21 months of his life. During the time that he was not a congressman, he worked in the private sector.
The first thing that Weiner did was create a consulting firm, Woolf-Weiner Associates. He advised many different companies, including electronic medical companies and international law firms. In 2015, Weiner served as a consultant on behalf of MWW Group‘s board of advisors. Weiner also wrote a column for the New York Daily News, in which he wrote about the political events occurring in New York. Also, he made regular appearances on NY1 regarding politics in New York and around the country.
Weiner has also made it to the big screen with an appearance in Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! He has also been in an episode of Alpha House, which is a political comedy show.
Weiner also has a documentary that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, named Weiner. The documentary is about his mayoral campaign, to which he and his wife Huma gave full access to the filmmakers.

Over the years when Weiner was in the public’s eye as a political figure, there were many instances that made him front-page news.
One example was when Weiner posted a sexually explicit photo on his public Twitter account. The photo was intended to be viewed privately by a woman who was following Weiner on Twitter. This instance occurred two weeks before Weiner resigned as congressman.
Since Weiner was a former congressman, he was still known by the public when a second sexting scandal occurred. This time, it occurred under an alias account name, “Carlos Danger.” Weiner had sent photos to a 22-year-old woman who had previously contacted him. This occurred at the same time that Weiner was trying to get back into politics by running for the New York mayoral race. In the end, Weiner did not win the race for the mayor seat.

In August of 2016, Weiner was in the news once again for sexting a photo of himself and his son lying in bed to another woman. Following this incident, Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, announced her intention to divorce. Abedin told the media that she and Weiner would only work together to raise their son.
A month following the photos of Weiner and his son, there were claims that Weiner was sexting a 15-year-old girl. This then led to an investigation by the FBI, who seized all of Weiner’s communication devices.
In January of 2017, there were charges laid against Weiner for this incident. A few months later, in May, Weiner surrendered himself to the FBI. He intended to plead guilty under an agreement of a single charge of transferring obscene material to a minor. Under the agreement, Weiner would be facing a sentence of 21 to 27 months and would also have to be registered as a sex offender.

In September 2017, Weiner was sentenced to 21 months in prison starting on November 6, 2017. Once released from prison, Weiner will have to pay a $10,000 fine, take part in a treatment program, and be supervised while using the Interest for three years.
Weiner will spend his time at the Federal Medical Center, Devens facility, which is located in Massachusetts. The facility is for males only, with minimum security, and specializes in long-term or mental health care.
The prison has a wide range of criminals from white-collar criminals and sex offenders to mobsters. A few individuals who will be serving their time with Weiner and have also been in the public’s eye are Peter Madoff (serving time for being involved with a Ponzi scheme with his brother, Bernard Madoff), Raj Rajaratnam (serving time for insider trading), and Nicholas Cosmo (serving time for stealing millions from investors).

Since Weiner grew up in New York, he is a lifelong fan of the New York Islanders (NHL team) and the New York Mets (MLB team).
He was known as a very hard worker and expected the same from his staff members. He expected everyone to be available around the clock in order to complete his tasks and duties. Many of his staff members couldn’t handle the amount of work given and this resulted in Weiner having one of the highest turnovers among all congressmen.
